Introduction
This course supports authorizers, governance boards, and charter teams in thinking about charter schools as an opportunity for sharing school leadership as they work collaboratively to develop their mission and vision. It introduces a mission and vision design process that takes into account community needs and the value of shared leadership. The course provides supporting tools and resources so authorizers can skillfully use a shared leadership model and mission and vision creation process to support innovative charter schools.

Teacher-Powered Schools The Teacher-Powered Schools website describes a “collective autonomy” approach where teachers “collaboratively design and implement” what impacts the school. Use this website in conjunction with the Tool Kit resource entitled ”Teacher Empowerment and Leadership Continuum” to deepen your understanding of how teacher-powered schools might support the shared mission and vision development. Locate, open, and create a copy of the Checklist and Planning document within the Tool Kit.
Using the knowledge gained from watching the videos and reviewing the Facilitator Slide Deck, review the Checklist and Planning document to complete one of two options:
Option A: Identify your potential next steps by filling in the matrix with relevant information for your organization.
OR
Option B: Review Item 3.1: Identifying Stakeholders. Began brainstorming potential stakeholders to bring to the Mission and Vision Sessions. Establish your next planning team meeting date, time, and location.
Evidence of Learning
Using the Mission and Vision Tool Kit and Facilitator Slide Deck the planning team will identify and invite stakeholders to participate in at least two writing sessions. The planning team can utilize the tools and resources provided to facilitate these sessions and ultimately write mission and vision statements.
